Greg
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com Tue, 02 Dec 2014 6:23 PM ET The Braves have non-tendered Kris Medlen, Brandon Beachy and Gus Schlosser, as all three pitchers have officially become free agents, according to MLB.com on Tuesday. Medlen was a 15-game winner in 2013 for Atlanta before missing last season due to elbow surgery. Beachy is also coming off Tommy John surgery. http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasybaseball/update/24859880/braves-non-tender-three-including-kris-medlen-brandon-beachy

paulcoates
I would consider both Medlen and Beachy for minor league deal, but that is strictly based on not knowing how they are progressing through rehab

paulcoates
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/5652/kris-medlen Medlen is recovering from a second Tommy John surgery and the Braves didn't want to commit what would likely be nearly $6 million in arbitration. The two sides have discussed a two-year deal or a one-year deal with an option, so it's possible they could still work something out. However, Medlen is now a free agent and free to negotiate with anyone. He should be ready to pitch at some point during the first half next season. Brandon Beachy, who is recovering from a second Tommy John surgery of his own, was also non-tendered. Dec 2 - 6:23 PM

Can_of_corn
What is the track record for second and third Tommy John surgery recoveries? I don't have the numbers on hand but the second surgery has a much higher failure rate. I don't think the sample size of the latter group is sufficient to draw conclusions from. (success in this instance would be a continuance of an ability to pitch professionally.)

Can_of_corn
Anyone successful you can name? I am sure I could dig up some two times winners if I had the inclination. Three time winners no idea. I think that is a very short list.
